Songkran is the most popular festival in Thailand and usually celebrate around 13-15th of April in every year. April is also the hottest month of the year, so this is probably a perfect time to have a water fight around in this month! Here’s how to have a great Songkran in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
Songkran in Bangkok
This is the biggest place to head to experience Songkran in Bangkok. Where the roads is packed with thousands of people carrying water guns. The highlights of this place are the fire trucks with a powerful water spray on them!
Khao San Road
The water fight here is mixed with one big wild and noisy party! Khao San Road is the place to go if you want to hit the crowds armed with a cocktail bucket and a water gun. This place will make sure that no one can escape from getting wet

Songkran in Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is where the Songkran Festival is originated from. Generally, Songkran is celebrated widely throughout the city center. Yet, the most popular places among the locals are as following:
Thapae Gate or Chiang Mai Gate
It is the major entrance into Chiang Mai city with literally intensity in swashing by the water gun fight. Apart from the water gun fight l there is a large stages set up with various performances and you’ll see plenty of people wearing traditional Thai costumes.
The old city of Chiang Mai is surrounded by a moat, which is often used for those to re-fill the water guns & buckets, which will only last for a few seconds, as it will get thrown to the person next to you
Apart from getting soak, the Maya shopping mall in Nimmanhaemin road has a stage set up every day with a different artist & DJ to keep you entertained all day long.

How to Survive Songkran Festival
So, if you find yourself in Thailand during the Songkran festival, there is no way of not getting a water fight or wet. So please be prepared and take good care of your belongings keep them in the hotel or in water proof bags. Take splashing and water fight in the good humor as it is intended and if you don’t want to get wet stay indoors or in the hotel.
